Linne Crater Moonscape: A machined lunar surface
In 2009, NASA launched the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This satellite was equipped with a suite of scientific instruments, including a laser altimeter which allowed NASA to map the Moon in unprecedent detail. We converted this dataset into the ultimate machined lunar topographical model. We chose Linne Crater because of its aesthetic symmetric appearance, but also because of its significant scientific interest among geologists and lunar scientists.
