Sphere Design Notes
Description of Finishes
Machine Finish: This is a finish which is nearly directly off of the lathe. This finish will have a directional shine.
Satin Finish: This is lightly blasted with glass beads to create a micro-dimpled surface. This is a not a reflective surface.
Polish: Spheres are brought to a mirror finish before acid etching.
Acid Etch Notes
No Etch: This option is not applicable. If we don’t etch your sphere, it will look just like a regular steel sphere. The etch is necessary to bring out the pattern.
Light Etch: This is a light treatment of acid, just enough to get the pattern to show, not deep enough to feel it.
Medium Etch: The sphere is acid etched to remove a just noticeable amount of material, enough to feel. Still very easy clean.
Ultra Etch (formerly called Heavy Etch): This is a more intense etch. Etches at this level can remove the shine.
AltDynamic Suggested Combinations
The various Damascus patterns react differently. Reptilian does not easily show its shine, meanwhile, the other patterns hold their shine more. Typically, the deeper the etch, the more the shine is removed. Reference the pictures and video for more info.
